Riverside Arts Center, Spring, 2007, Newsletter Upcoming Events in the Theater February 22-25: Tom Stoppard’s The Real Inspector Hound March 1-11: The Michigan Classical Repertory Theatre presents Christopher Hampton’s play, Les Liaisons Dangereuses (Dangerous Liaisons) The complex moral ambiguities of seduction and revenge made “Les Liaisons Dangereuses” (1782) one of the most scandalous and controversial novels in European literature and Christopher Hampton’s brilliant theatrical adaptation has preserved the satanic magnetism of the twin conspirators while going all out for social comedy. Its prime movers, the Vicomte de Valmont and the Marquise de Merteuil––gifted, wealthy, and bored––form an unholy alliance and turn seduction into a game. And they play this game with such wit and style that it is impossible not to admire them, until they discover mysterious rules that they cannot understand. In the ensuing battle there can be no winners, and the innocent suffer with the guilty The talented cast includes Brian Harcourt as the Vicomte de Valmont, Wendy Hiller as the Marquise de Merteuil, Melanie Wilson as Madame de Tourvel and Isaac Ellis as Le Chevalier Danceny. Performances are at 8 p.m. Thursdays-Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. General admission tickets are $18.00, $15.00 for students and seniors and $12.00 for groups of 6 or more. Thursdays are pay-what-you-can. Reserve tickets by calling (734) 214-6600 or purchase them online at www.MCRTTKTS.org. March 22-25 and 29-31: PTD Productions presents Hazing the Monkey, Roger Youngblood has been working on the assembly line at a tractor factory. When he applies for the Junior Manager Training Program, the selection process turns out to be more than he bargained for. He is put through the ringer, put on trial, challenged to defend his faith, and forced to confront the truth about his wife and his life in a series of absurd interviews that leave him unable to discern role playing from real events. Here is a fast paced, wild and crazy romp through the corporate world of today! Thursday - Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Also coming from PTD Productions this season are The Shadow Box by Michael Christofer, June 14-24, The Butler Did It Again , December 6-15; and Hollywood Arms by Carol Burnett and her daughter, Carrie Hamilton, September 20-29. Hollywood Arms is an autobiographical piece about Burnett’s early life and her relationship with a very unconventional mother and grandmother. It has that “Carol Burnett touch” people will remember from her television shows. May 31 - June 3: Redbud Productions presents Steel Magnolias Thurs-Sat at 8 p.m., Sat & Sun matinees at 2 p.m Lynn, Shelby and the gang invite you down to Truvy’s Beauty Parlor for an evening full of laughs, tenderness and tears! At Truvy’s (Kyle Marie)’s Louisiana beauty salon, all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager but clumsy new assistant, Annelle (Abby Huth), the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice. Among Truvy’s customers are the much admired M’Lynn (Lenore Ferber), and her beautiful daughter, Shelby (Chrissy Gibson) who is about to marry––and whose life will never be the same. What happens between mother/daughter in the next few years in the midst of their supportive (and eccentric) beauty shop friends (Erica Dutton and Sandy Ryder) forms the framework of this funny, tragic and touching audience favorite, made famous through the Julia Roberts/Sally Fields Oscar-nominated film. Tickets are $16 for adults and $12 for students and seniors. Excellent group rates are also available for parties of 10 or more. Reserve your tickets or get information about group rates by calling Redbud Productions at 734-663-7167. Dine at Haab’s Restaurant before any show and receive $4 off your ticket (per ticket per entreé). Just give us your Haab’s receipt at the Box Office!
