DTE Annex hosts sculpture/photo exhibition
Alert to the DayAnn Arbor artists C. Malcolm Powers and his wife, Marion S. Powers, will hold a joint exhibition of their work in the RAC’s DTE Annex from May 4-20. Sketches in Bronze and Photo Scenes will include photographs by Marion and sculpture by Malcolm.

A sculptor working in cast bronze, Malcolm’s images deal with “creature-hood, alienation, resurrection, joy, praise and gratitude to God.” He received his Master of Fine Arts degree in design with a sculpture major from the University of Michigan in 1961. A participant in many group and solo exhibitions, his most recent commission was a Celtic Cross for First Presbyterian Church in Ann Arbor. His works may be seen online at www.cmalcolmpowers.com.

An opening reception will be held Friday, May 4, from 4 to 8 p.m. The exhibit will be open Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sunday, 1:30 to 4 p.m.

Docent show opens May 3
What could be more exciting than another quality exhibit at the RAC Gallery? One featuring the many talents of our wonderful docents! We are pleased to showcase the work of our gallery volunteers with the Third Annual Riverside Arts Center Gallery Docent Exhibition, which opens May 3, 2007.

This year’s show includes a variety of media, from drawings and paintings to ceramics and sculpture. The exhibition will feature drawings in graphite and colored pencil by Dee Overly, acrylics by Bill Knudstrup, watercolors by Angela Wilson and Virginia Falk, reed pen and walnut ink drawings by Brian Falk, metal and glass sculpture by Michelle Shankwiler, metal and mixed media sculpture by Louise Flory, photographs by Ken Warner, and high fired ceramics by Sandy Cook. Please join us for the opening reception on Saturday, May 5, from 5 to 7 pm at the Riverside Arts Center Gallery. You’ll have the opportunity to meet the artists and show your appreciation for all they do for the gallery.

Docents are responsible for keeping the gallery open during operating hours, assisting visitors, installing and taking down shows, working on publicity and mailings, and so much more! Together our dedicated docent corps donates more than one thousand hours of volunteer service to the gallery each year. If you are interesting in becoming a member of this great team, please contact Riverside’s gallery coordinator, Paula Doe, at 734-480-2787 or e-mail racgallery@yahoo.com. No experience is necessary!
